Hello, and welcome to my Astronomy page! I enjoy learning about the advances made in mathematics and science during the Middle Ages; two areas of research that are often sadly lacking in the SCA. I study and research math, but particularly the medieval fields of Astronomy and Astrology. Astrology has played an important role in the shaping of culture, early astronomy, the Vedas, and various disciplines throughout history. In fact, Astrology and Astronomy were often indistinguishable during the Middle Ages, and the desire for predictive and divinatory knowledge one of the motivating factors for astronomical observation.

In keeping with my persona, this page doesn't distinguish between Astrology and Astronomy. You will find projects in keeping with both fields; from building my own astrolabe to creating horary charts for the coronation of An Tir's kings and queens. You can see those on my Coronation page, where I keep records of each reign for which I do an electional astrological chart.

Enjoy looking around!

Student's Astrolabe

Student's astrolabe constructed in vellum paper, oak gall ink and pressed wood. One of the main sources used in the creation of this astrolabe is Geoffrey Chaucer's Treatise (1391), and the mathematics were based on Ptolemy's Tetrabiblios (200 C.E.). This astrolabe is plated to give Seattle-based readings of the stars. See more, and read the abridged documentation, go here.
