Summoned by the Dream is designed to be an SCA anthem, crossing the boundaries between regional groups, kingdoms, and peerages. Each verse may celebrate a particular elevation within the Society, but the overall theme of the piece is that all of these virtues live in each of us, and we are called to live up to the ideals that we, the individual members of the SCA, espouse.

I wrote the lyrics for Summoned, and Master Niall MacFarland created the music.

I'll try to get a recording of the song up on this site as soon as possible, for those that might want to learn it for themselves.

  Summoned by the Dream

I am led toward forgotten paths
By shades of long-dead chivalry
Though I may never see their faces
I will forever know their deeds.
The soul of honor guides my course
And lives within the best of me.

Chorus:
I hear my kingdom's heart a-beating
The rhythm of a distant drum
A call to arms from King and Queen
The time for hero's deeds has come
I am summoned by the Dream.
I am summoned by the Dream.

Chorus.

There are challenges in ancient halls
Handed down 'neath slumbering stone
Left by those who've gone before us
Mysteries of hearth and home.
Through lore and craft, we learn their wisdom
Share the joys that they have known.

Chorus.

There's a riddle taught by fealty
That words can bind as strong as steel
The noblest hearts are bound to service
And revered are those who kneel
One deed can change the lives of many
Small favors teach high ideals.

Chorus.

The modern world is filled with darkness
Life's not what it used to be
So lift a torch for truth and knowledge
Simple virtues, and for courtesy.
Fighting for the best of purpose –
To be all that we have Dreamed.
