This document is the commemmoration of the award of the Raven's Blood, granted to Dame Elena Maisnilwarin by Their Royal Highnesses Ieuan and Gwyneth, ruling Prince and Princess of Tir Righ, on the occasion of their heirs' coronation. The recipient had given years of her time and energy as the exchequer of the principality, and thus, was awarded one of the greatest honors of that land. The scroll is created in an elaborate design modeled on the antiphonal music-books of the 13th centuries; in particular the Buckland Missal (apx 1370). It used tilted, large-leaf (and feathered) vinework, monster-based drolleries and the inclusion of musical text (some pages are antiphonal, some are direct text). This text doesn't utilize a significant amount of goldwork, but some is lightly used onm prominent pages. This book was something of a transitional style between thick, whiteworked gothic hands and thinner detailing with quill pen and curly-qued, ornamented lines. In homage to the lady's specific contributions, the musical score detailed on the piece (within the stanzas) is the modern song 'Money,' by Pink Floyd, as a fanciful call-out to her service. The primary text of this document was specifically written by His Highness, Prince Ieuan, for this particular award document. In the main capital is an illuminated image of the lady herself (complete with her heraldry); she is holding the rules and regulations of her post, and handing the prince a small bag of gold. | ||||
